Schools and teachers have been celebrating after winning awards in the inaugural Tes Awards for International Schools.
The 13 winners were selected by a panel of expert judges from 96 shortlisted schools across the globe. Regionally, six awards were won by schools in the Middle East, five in Asia, one in Africa, and one in Europe.
Marlborough College Malaysia won the overall International School of the Year award, and a number of staff received individual awards, including Emma Dawson, vice principal of NLCS Dubai, who won the leadership award. Joanna Povall, head of Wales International School in Abu Dhabi, won Principal of the Year.
Hayley Langusta, from Brighton College Abu Dhabi, won the Teaching Assistant of the Year award.
Dan Worth, international editor for Tes Magazine said, “Discovering the amazing things the winning schools and individuals have been doing all around the world has been very exciting as they demonstrate bold new ideas and innovations in a raft of key areas of education.”
Debra Forsyth, CEO of British Schools in the Middle East (BSME) said: “BSME is very proud of the continuous development work in Middle East schools that ensures they are at the cutting edge of education globally and offer an education that ranks amongst the best in the world.”
Colin Bell, CEO of COBIS said: “The selection of finalists in the Tes Awards for International Schools has been fantastic. Seeing the commitment and innovation offered by these schools has been inspirational, encouraging and really characterises what international schools can and do offer.”
Kam Chohan, executive director of ECIS, said the work of the winners had been “inspiring” while John Gwyn Jones of FOBISIA said he was “thrilled” to see schools in Asia do so well.
