The renowned maths education reformer Conrad Wolfram will address the annual conference of the Council of British International Schools (COBIS), along with a host of other leading speakers confirmed for the event in May.
Heads, governors, school owners and senior and middle leaders from schools around the world are expected at the annual gathering, being held in Bishopsgate, London.
Mr Wolfram, CEO of Wolfram Research and author of The Math(s) Fix: An Education Blueprint for the AI Age will lead a plenary session setting the tone for much of the conference, where AI and its implications for education is a key theme.
The three-day event from May 11 to 13 will also hear from Ed Kirwan, founder and CEO of Empathy Studios and Empathy Week, talking about the “human skill shift” required as education is changed by artificial intelligence.
Matthew Wemyss, assistant school director at the Cambridge School of Bucharest, will address issues around how leadership will change with “AI at the helm”.
Other plenary and breakout sessions at the London event will tackle issues around wellbeing, organisational culture, inclusion and governance, among others.
Sally Uren OBE, CEO at the non-profit Forum for the Future, is due to speak about sustainability – another key theme of the event.
International education will also, of course, be a central thread and Leigh Webb, CEO of ISC Research, will lead a plenary on trends and data in the growing international schools market.
Conference delegates will also be treated to a speech from Maggie Alphonsi MBE, Rugby World Cup winner, commentator, and speaker, who will explain how to develop a “winning mindset”.
Conductor and educator Dominic Ellis-Peckham will speak at the final plenary session.
COBIS has summarised this year’s event – the 42nd annual conference in the organisation’s history – on its website, saying: “Building on last year’s theme, the 2024 COBIS Annual Conference – Louder Than Words – will challenge participants to explore and commit to meaningful action and practical steps to move the sector forward on education redesign, wellbeing, sustainability, and more.”
