In this new episode, Russell Speirs chats to Alicia Drummond, the founder of The Wellbeing Hub, an online portal to help students, parents and staff in schools to manage mental health and promote wellbeing.
Wellbeing is fundamental to a thriving school, she argues, because “you can’t be the best version of you if emotionally and physically you are not ok”. And with one in four teenagers in the UK having “a probable mental health disorder”, according to Alicia, improving mental health needs to be at the top of a school’s agenda.
So, in practical terms, what can be done? Psycho-social education provides some of the answers, argues Alicia. For example, did you know that altruism increases endorphin levels and can be a way to improve one’s own wellbeing? Or that there are some simple steps students can take to turn their pre-exam anxiety into excitement and enthusiasm?
