Trudie Masterson has been appointed as the new principal at Baobab College, Zambia.
She is currently principal of New Cairo British International School and will join in August 2024.
Trudie has worked as principal in three schools in the Newton Group, Qatar and prior to that as headteacher at Parkgate House School and deputy head at Hall Grove School in Bagshot, Surrey.
With over 20 years of senior leadership experience, Trudie joins Baobab College in its 31st year providing education to students in Zambia.
She is joined by her 9-year-old twin sons Adam and Zakaria who are looking forward to the green space and the school’s use of technology.
Baobab College was established in 1994 as an inclusive school for children of all ages and abilities and is a not- for-profit organisation. All money raised from school fees is used to develop the school.
From its relatively humble beginnings in a house in the Roma suburb of Lusaka, the school quickly grew into a thriving community. In 1999, Baobab College moved to its new greenfield site of 44 hectares in Lilayi on the outskirts of the capital.
There are now 650 students in school and it remains two-form entry with class sizes capped at 25.
Ms Masterson said of her appointment: “I am delighted to be offered the opportunity to join as principal at a top leading school in Lusaka. The inclusivity and focus on student wellbeing is a real strength of the school as well as the many educational opportunities for all.
“The boarding element of the school was an appealing factor as I have had extensive experience of boarding both as a student and adult. This will be my first post in Zambia after over 15 years in the Middle East and I am excited to be part of the next 30 years at Baobab College.”
