Kate Martin has been appointed as the head of Casterton, Sedbergh Prep School, from January 2025, the school has announced.
Kate has been the head at Mowden Hall School since 2020 and will take over from Will Newman, who has led Sedbergh Prep School since 2017.
Kate wrote about taking on her first headship during the pandemic for School Management Plus, describing her experience as a “baptism of fire”.
Kate has over 25 years’ experience in the independent sector, in both day and boarding schools, including roles as deputy head and director of sport at Mowden and head of girls’ games at both Oundle School and Ampleforth College.
In a statement on the school’s website, chair of governors Richard Gledhill said: “Sedbergh School’s board of governors and senior leadership team look forward to working closely with Kate over the coming months to ensure a seamless transition. We have no doubt Kate will build upon the successes achieved under Will’s tenure, inspiring staff and pupils at the prep school to an exciting future.”
Kate is married to Simon and their son Ted joins School House in Year 9, in September. She will be meeting the school community throughout throughout 2024.
