DLD College London is opening its doors to Year 9 students for the first time from September 2023.
Central to the offering will be a curriculum which is designed to spark a love of learning for the younger years, preparing students for the careers of tomorrow while providing a solid bedrock of knowledge and skills, the college says.
Up until now, the college has been a 14 to 19 college offering GCSEs, A-Levels, BTEC courses and International Foundation Programmes (IFP). It also offers an Academic Preparation Programme (APC).
The new unique Year 9 programme will deliver a hybrid of the traditional and the cutting-edge, introducing students to the rigours of English and mathematics while also learning about topics such as NFTs and cryptocurrency.
Taking advantage of the school’s central London position on the South Bank, this new curriculum has an Urban School Project element where, once a week, London will become students’ “classroom”. Students will work on cross-curricular projects, actively using everything the capital has to offer, instilling an awareness and interest beyond the conventional.
Principal Irfan Latif said: “We’ve collaborated with experienced educators to create a new programme which will keep students engaged as they work towards their GCSEs and BTEC subject selections. It’s a modern concept which includes content such as Digital Futures, People & Places, Study & Life Skills as well as our unconventional Urban School.
“Future-proofing our students for yet to be created careers is a buzz phrase in education but at DLD we are really making this happen as part of our mission to be a progressive and forward-thinking school.”
Year 9 students will then progress onto an exciting new GCSE programme, continuing the theme of tradition combined with innovation, as BTEC subjects such as Esports and Entrepreneurship will be offered alongside traditional GCSEs.
Through the school’s award-winning pastoral system, students will also be supported in developing their confidence, independence and resilience in an urban setting, further preparing them for the future.
DLD College London is hosting an open evening on Thursday 12 May 2022 at 5:30pm, those interested can register here.
