Sevenoaks School is offering free tickets for state school staff to its teaching and learning conference for teachers, school leaders, education professionals and practitioners this October.
Organised in association with Research Schools International and the Human Flourishing Program at Harvard’s Flourishing Network, the two-day conference will focus on practical, school-based approaches that help students lead more fulfilling educational lives.
Attendees will consider what it means to flourish in a modern educational landscape that is subject to changes, and the challenges and rewards of implementing flourishing practices.
The conference, entitled “Supporting Flourishing in Schools”, aims to encourage attendees to consider how to introduce and develop activities associated with human flourishing within school communities.
It will also provide educators with opportunities to share experiences, make connections and establish research interests for collaborative development.
The conference programme will pay particular attention to three themes:
- Learning activities that develop a sense of meaning and purpose
- Creativity and the arts
- Connecting with nature
The conference is open to education professionals from the UK and overseas, access for one day is available for £75, and two-day tickets cost £100. As part of Sevenoaks School’s commitment to sharing insight and best teaching practice with the whole of the education community, delegates from state schools will be able to attend for free.
Mark Beverley, director of teaching and learning at Sevenoaks school, said: “We have been working with researchers from the Harvard Flourishing Program for the past two years to understand how best to promote notions of flourishing in school.
“Our goal is to help students to flourish and strive to be the best versions of themselves, so they are intellectually, emotionally and physically prepared to thrive in the future, as well as also having a positive impact on the world around them.
“Participation in research-based classroom projects has encouraged our teachers to reflect on their practice and use what they have learnt on the ground to improve implementation.
“This conference will share our learnings with the wider education community and help other teaching professionals to consider how different flourishing practices can benefit their own schools.”
