In a very informative Friday Club this week, Dominic Moon sits down with John Burnett, director of marketing and admissions at Leighton Park, a Quaker school in Reading, England.
They discuss John’s career so far and how he developed his skills working in admissions at University College London (UCL). They discuss the differences between working for a large university admitting 15,000 students a year and a school admitting 140, and John recalls the exhausting challenge of “speed dating” with prospective PhD students in China.
John reveals some of his tech secrets and the applications that have helped him improve marketing and admissions at Leighton Park, including software for tracking and research.
As ever, they discuss the challenge of promoting a school surrounded by competitors, and John tells how the school decided to put its Quaker values to the forefront after parental research.
Finally, we learn that although John would like to move to Costa Rica, he is equally happy with his home in Winchester, England.
An informative and entertaining interview.
