Job Description

St James Senior Boys’ School is located in Ashford, on the outskirts of Surrey and London, and offers a distinctive education for boys aged 11 to 18. St James is a dynamic school, leading the way in the education of the whole-person with a strong philosophically based ethos, valuing stillness and meditation, balanced with a rigorous academic focus.

The philosophy underpinning the St James ethos is a Philosophy of Unity. This philosophy emphasises the practice of self-awareness and the unity of all humanity. Self-awareness is practised during pausing and quiet time. Boys and staff are provided with the opportunity to connect with the peace and stillness behind all movement, and are encouraged to utilise this practice in their daily life.

It is a great moment for a new leader to take the helm and capitalise on the School’s many achievements, not least the recent investment in the site, and ISI inspection.

The new Head will join the School at a time when then there is an opportunity to advocate the School’s unique brand and grow pupil numbers. The role presents a rare opportunity for someone who is wholeheartedly willing and able to share and uphold the strong spiritual values and philosophy that underpin the School. The new head will need to be able to communicate and promote the School to prospective families in a competitive area. The School will continue to invest in its staff and premises to ensure it is well-placed in the local marketplace.

Above all, through inspirational and sensitive leadership, there is a tremendous opportunity to make a lasting difference to a School that, whilst being set apart from others by its strong spiritual values and beliefs, must continue to evolve and adapt to broader changes in society in order to remain
successful and competitive.
