In her latest interview, Dr Helen Wright meets Jill Berry, a former headteacher and now education consultant and writer.
She explains how headship was “the most joyful job of all” but she has adapted to life afterwards, working with different school leaders to improve education, writing and even becoming a novelist.
She explains her research looking at what holds teachers and middle leaders back from making the step up in their careers, also looking at what life is like once teachers achieve top positions.
How do you make the job your own once you are in it, for example, and how do you go from being “the new head” to simply “the head”?
Taking examples from her own life, she also talks about life beyond headship and how leaders can continue to flourish beyond school.
