Shrewsbury School has signed an agreement to launch its first international boarding school in India, The Island Online reports.
Shrewsbury International School India, which is set to open in 2025, will span 115 acres in Bhopal, in the central Indian state of Madhya Pradesh, India.
The announcement comes as other UK independent schools are branching out into South Asia. These include Harrow, which will open an outpost in Bengalaru in August and Wellington College, which will open its own in Pune in September this year.
Haileybury has already announced it will open what is believed to be the first British boarding school franchise in Bangladesh this year as well.
Shrewsbury International School India will be Shrewsbury’s fifth international school following the announcement in 2022 of Shrewsbury International School Phnom Penh, Cambodia, the existing international school in Hong Kong and two schools in Bangkok, Thailand.
The school will be a fully co-educational boarding school for ages 11 to 18.
