Amesbury School in Surrey has announceed the appointment of Gavin Franklin as head from September 2023.
He will succeed Jon Whybrow who is retiring at the end of the current academic year after three years.
Gavin joins Amesbury from Wellesley House in Broadstairs, Kent, where he has been head since 2017. Prior to Wellesley House, Gavin worked at Wellington College as a housemaster and English teacher as well as being involved in the co-curricular life of the school.
Gavin will be joined at Amesbury, a co-ed prep, by his wife Claire and family.
Karen Davies, chair of Amesbury School’s governing body, said: “Amesbury’s governing body are delighted to have been able to appoint a new head with Gavin’s experience and personal values, who will look to build on everything that makes Amesbury so special.”
Giving feedback to the governors on Gavin, Amesbury’s School Council pupils said: “He’s the one!”
Commenting on his new appointment, Gavin said: “I believe that Amesbury school stands out for genuinely focusing on the individual. Jon Whybrow, current head of Amesbury School added: “It is with great regret that I have taken the decision to retire as head of Amesbury at the end of this academic year. However, I am thrilled the quality of the school has attracted a new head of such great calibre who will be pivotal in leading the school into a new era, whilst maintaining the best of what makes Amesbury so unique. A wonderful environment for children to learn, grow and be happy in.”
